Fred Biletnikoff Jr. begins his 6th season in the arena football 2 league and his 5th with the Coyotes. In 2004, Biletnikoff was named the interim head coach after a 1-9 start and after five games, the interim title was lifted. The Coyotes won their final two games of the season and finished 3-13. In 2005, his first full season as head coach, the Pleasanton CA native led the Coyotes to an 8-8 record and broke 32 franchise records. The Coyotes had three af2 All-Conference players in 2005; kicker John Gockman, WR/LB George Williams, and QB Juston Wood. In 2006, Biletnikoff led the Coyotes to a 12-4 record, winning their last seven games of the regular season and earning the franchise’s first playoff appearance. 2006 was highlighted by QB Scott Rislov, now of the San Jose Sabercats, as he threw an af2 record 106 touchdown passes. Rislov’s af2 record still stands. In 2007 the Coyotes posted a 10-6 regular season record and secured the franchise’s first ever playoff win. The 2007 Coyotes offense led the af2 in scoring offense, total points, average points per game and total offensive touchdowns. Since 2005 no team in the af2 has scored more points, averaged more points in a season, or averaged more points per game than the Biletnikoff led Central Valley Coyotes.
Biletnikoff, 44, coached Junior College football for 12 years and most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Fresno City College Rams in 2002. He helped the Rams to a 53-13 record during his tenure, and coached the Rams in four Northern California Championship games. Prior to his term at Fresno City College, Biletnikoff spent six years with Chabot College in Hayward CA. From 1993-1998 Biletnikoff coached wide receivers, running backs, and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 1998 when he helped lead the Gladiators to a 9-2 record and an eventual victory over Sacramento City College in the Merced Elks Bowl.
Biletnikoff received his A.A. degree from Chabot College in 1998, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Hayward in 2000, and his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from Fresno State University in 2002. Biletnikoff is currently a faculty member in the Kinesiology department at his alma mater, Fresno State University. Freddie currently resides in Fresno and has one daughter, Katelyn.
